A gynaecologist provides services for managing conditions involving the female reproductive system (uterus, the ovaries, the fallopian tubes, and other organs) as well as women’s health. They also provide services for the pregnant woman but only limited to the first or second trimester. They do not do deliveries.
Obstetricians on the other hand takes care of the pregnant woman including delivery until 6 weeks post-delivery.
A doctor can decide to practice as both or choose to practice one aspect only.

In the private sector, it is dependent on each private specialist and their preference.
Dr Ati has an open-door principle. You do not need a referral to see him unless if your medical aid option requires you to have a GP referral to grant you authorisation to see the specialist.
Please contact your medical aid directly to find out if you need a specialist authorisation before seeing the gynaecologist. If in doubt you can call Dr Ati’s receptionist, and they will guid you.
It’s up to you when to first visit an obstetrics office. Most women schedule the first visit about 8 weeks after the first day of their last periods, but others may come in as soon as they realize they are pregnant.
The consultation fee at our practice varies depending on the specific procedure and services required. For an accurate consultation fee or quote, we recommend contacting our rooms directly. Our staff will be happy to assist you and provide all necessary information regarding pricing and appointment scheduling. We look forward to serving you.
